SLIDESHOW: Final Launching of Atlantis

Final Launching of Atlantis

The space shuttle Atlantis rocketed off its seaside launching pad on Friday, rising atop a tower of smoke and flames as it left Earth on the shuttle program’s final flight.  The shuttle needs to reach a minimum of 17,500 mph/28,157.5 km/h/Mach 22 to be able to successfully escape earth’s orbit.
